Step 1 (Obtaining a Salesperson’s License):
- Be 18 years of age or older
- Education:
- 60 hours pre-licensing course
- May also be called 4 credits
- Covers basic real estate information
- Course must be approved by the PREC
- Course can be taken in a classroom/online
- Examination:
- Complete examination application
- Submit examination fee
- Pass both state and national portions
- Application for licensing to the PREC
- Pay licensing fee
Step 2 (After Obtaining a Salesperson’s License):
- Post Licensing Education:
- 30 hour post-licensing course
- Course must be approved by the PREC
- Course can be taken in a classroom/online
- Complete during first year of being licensed
- Continuing Education:
- 14 hours of continuing education
- Courses must be approved by the PREC
- Courses can be taken in a classroom/online
- Completed every renewal period
- Continuing education must be completed each year by May 31st deadline
Step 3 (Obtaining a Broker’s License):
- Be 21 years of age or older
- Have a high school diploma or its equivalent
- Experience:
- Have been an active licensed salesperson for 3 years
- Combination of other business experience or education can also fulfill this requirement as determined by PREC

- Education:
- 240 hours pre-licensing course
- May also be called 16 credits
- Covers professional real estate education
- Course must be approved by the PREC
- Course can be taken in a classroom/online
- Examination:
- Complete examination application
- Submit examination fee
- Pass both state and national portions
- Application for licensing to the PREC
- Application must include verification of experience
- Pay licensing fee
Step 4 (After Obtaining a Broker’s License):
- Continuing Education:
- 14 hours of continuing education
